Circulating Endothelial Giant Cells
نویسندگان
چکیده
Giant cells fully permissive for human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) were found to circulate, at a variable proportion, in peripheral blood of 21 out of 25 immunocompromised patients with disseminated HCMV infection. Circulating endothelial giant cells (EGC) were identified by a specific monoclonal antibody of endothelial origin and shown to express immediateearly, early, and late viral proteins. Immunostaining patterns of different viral proteins were comparable to those detected in vitro in cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells. EGC counts > 10 were associated with high levels (> 100) of HCMV viremia and antigenemia, as well as with an overt clinical syndrome in transplanted patients, and to an untreated long lasting organ localization in AIDS patients. On the other hand, EGC counts were < 10 during disseminated HCMV infections of both transplant recipients with no apparent organ syndrome and AIDS patients with recent organ involvement. In tissue sections from AIDS patients, infected endothelial cells were found to progressively enlarge till detaching from the small vessel wall and entering blood stream. HCMV-infected EGC represent a new systemic parameter suitable for the diagnosis ofHCMV organ involvement and for the study ofthe pathogenesis of disseminated infections. (J. Clin. Invest. 1993.92:663670.)

Receptor for advanced glycation end products involved in circulating endothelial cells release from human coronary endothelial cells induced by C-reactive protein
Objective(s): This study was designed to investigate the effect of receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE), S100A12 and C-reactive protein (CRP) on the release of circulating endothelial cells (CECs) from human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs). Materials and Methods: HCAECs were cultured in increasing concentration of CRP (0, 12.5, 25, 50μg/ml) or S100A12 protein (0, 4, 1...

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of two different intensities of physical activity on circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) in healthy young women. For this purpose, 15 female students from volunteers were randomly selected via questionnaire (group 1: mean age 22 ±1/8 years, BMI 20/81±1/91 kg/m2, n = 8. group 2: mean age 21 ±1/5 years, BMI 20/38 ± 1/66 kg/m2, ...

متن کاملEffect of Scurrula atropurpurea on nitric oxide, endothelial damage, and endothelial progenitor cells of DOCA-salt hypertensive rats
Objective(s):To know whether Scurrula atropurpurea is able to modulate total plasma nitrate/nitrite levels, decrease endothelial damage, and increase endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) in hypertensive rats. Materials and Methods: The rats were divided in 5 groups: control (normotensive) group, Desoxy cortico sterone (DOCA)-salt hypertensive group, and three DOCA-salt hypertensive groups. All 5...
متن کاملCirculating endothelial cells fail to induce cerebral infarction in rabbits.
Exfoliated cells that appear to be circulating endothelial cells were detected in human blood. Because the size of endothelial cells is larger than that of other circulating blood cells, we investigated whether the increased number of circulating endothelial cells might be responsible for cerebral embolism. We compared rabbits into which suspensions of endothelial cells were injected through th...
